Honestly, when we heard the amalgam of Kristen Stewart, bodybuilder character, queer love story, and revenge drama describing A24’s latest movie, we didn’t know exactly what we were in for. But, now that the trailer for Love Lies Bleeding is out, it all makes perfect sense… In that surreal A24 kind of way, anyway. But, we dig it, is what we’re getting at. It honestly feels like it has the makings of a new queer cinema staple, if it pays off everything it promises. So often, queer lady movies are steeped in tragedy, history, and a vague poeticism. Love Lies Bleeding brings something a little more rock and roll to the table, if its trailer is anything to go by. There are guns, crimes, revenge, and a ton of muscles. Queer ladies, and anyone else to whom it speaks, deserve this kind of tale.
But don’t take our word for it; check out the latest trailer for Love Lies Bleeding below.
This newest look at the film really turns up the volume, which was already set pretty high (as you can see in Love Lies Bleeding‘s original trailer below.) We’re obsessed with the power, romance, and electricity that seeps out of the film. And the chemistry between its leads is palpable. You definitely can’t stop watching.
According to its trailers, the tagline for Love Lies Bleeding is “Revenge gets ripped.” And so we can absolutely say that we’re watching this one for the… plot. To help us understand a bit more about the film, though, A24 has also shared the following synopsis for the movie.
From Director Rose Glass comes an electric new love story; reclusive gym manager Lou falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder headed through town to Vegas in pursuit of her dream. But their love ignites violence, pulling them deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family.
We love an ambitious bodybuilder, played by Katy O’Brian, and a reclusive gym manager, played by Kristen Stewart. But what we love more than that is a happy ending for an overtly queer tale. Please, A24, just let Lou and Jackie live happily ever after. A little murder between girlfriends is just fine, but no more tragedy. Although we have our fingers crossed for a happy ending, we can’t wait to see Katy O’Brian and Kristen Stewart crush their performances regardless of the outcome. We’re especially excited to see more after Love Lies Bleeding‘s trailers.
Love Lies Bleeding “will release in theaters on March 8, 2024, following its debut at the Sundance Film Festival next year.”
