Celebrate 40 Years of KNIGHT RIDER with K.I.T.T. Playmobil Car

One of the most iconic shows of the 1980s is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. And the folks at Playmobil are celebrating with an amazing new collectible toy. This summer, K.I.T.T., the iconic vehicle from the classic TV series Knight Rider, arrives in Playmobil form. You can check out the first images of Playmobil’s Knight Industries Two Thousand car, as they properly referred to it, below.

The computerized, talking car was the television obsession of a whole generation of kids, who wished they could be the heroic detective Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff). We imagined ourselves going on adventures with our very own sentient A.I. Pontiac Trans Am. All while the best TV theme song of the era played in the background of course.

Playmobil’s K.I.T.T. Knight Rider car comes equipped with a whole range of authentic functions. Among them is a printer underneath the dashboard for printing out mug shots of bad guys. Also, there’s a rotating number plate, a cord with a grappling hook, pop-up headlights, and a detachable roof. K.I.T.T. features electronic sounds and lights operated by touch-feature on the bonnet.

The vehicle quotes lines from the series in the original iconic K.I.T.T. voice. Specific quotes are associated with the on/off function, with the others just playing randomly. At the same time, the famous scanner light on the front of the car lights up. The dashboard light also flickers. In addition to the title character Michael Knight, the playset also includes highly detailed accessories. Among them is Bonnie Barstow’s computer lab, and Devon Miles’ office furniture.

Although there have been attempts at rebooting Knight Rider over the years, nothing ever beat the original. And many kids who grew up with the show still want a little piece of it. And aside from having a real-life K.I.T.T. of their own, this Playmobil version is the next best thing. The Knight Rider K.I.T.T. vehicle arrives on July 15, at a price of $89.99.
