Stranger Things season four has rocked our world, and it still has two episodes left to go. But we will always have a special place in our hearts for that miraculous first season. Back when Dustin, Mike, Lucas, and Will were still young kids playing D&D, unprepared for the wild realities of life in Hawkins. Now, British music producer and composer Harvey Summers has created a stop-motion robot tribute to Stranger Things season one, complete with his reimagining of the now-iconic theme song. And its actually vintage ’80s wind-up robots that play our favorite kids from Hawkins. You can watch the full video right here:
Here’s what Harvey Summers had to say about his Stranger Things project:
“When it came to making a video, I realised the toy robots which keep guard of the synths in my studio could play the parts of Mike, Will, Lucas and Dustin, while my little alien friend, ‘Eno’ could play Eleven. This is my first attempt at any kind of animation. Big learning curve! But I had so much fun doing it. Hope you enjoy my little tribute to one of the most awesome things to grace our screens in recent years! “
If you’re an ’80s kid, you probably recognize some of these toys. One of them is a Robby the Robot toy from the movie Forbidden Planet. We are guessing he is a representation of Lucas, since he’s wearing a bandana on his head. The other is V.I.N. CENT, from the 1979 Disney sci-fi movie The Black Hole. The red one wasn’t based on any IP, but was a popular toy nevertheless.
As for the robot playing Will, that’s MAMI, the Taiwanese toy robot that sold millions. And as for Eleven, she’s represented by the little grey alien toy which also sold like hotcakes after Close Encounters of the Third Kind came out. Hey, maybe for the sequel video, the infamous Omnibot 2000 can play Hopper? He kinda gives off Hopper vibes.
