SONIC ORIGINS Will Bring a Classic Collection of Games to You

The Sonic Renaissance continues to thrive, bringing joy to ‘90s kids like myself who grew up with the blue speedster. We played the video games, watched the TV show, and really wanted to be a fun hedgehog instead of a human. And who doesn’t love classic characters like Knuckles and Tails? A whole new generation is getting to know this wild blur of a hedgehog through his current slate of wild and wacky movies. (I personally cannot wait for the blessing of Sonic 3.) Now, fans new and not-so-new can live those classic Sega Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog glory days with the upcoming digital game package Sonic Origins. (Thanks to Polygon for bringing this to our attention.)

The digital package collection will include four games from the Genesis era. These classic games include Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. Fans can nab the Sonic Origins game package for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, XBox One, and XBox Series X. It will set them back $39.99, which feels like a total steal considering how expensive, well, everything is in the world. Can you really put a price on the sheer joy of making Sonic zip and blur through Green Hill Zone? And yes it is rated E for everyone. Sonic is for the people.

Of course, there is a “Digital Deluxe” version of the collection. It offers different missions, characters, and cool music tracks for $44.99. All Sonic Origins game packages will have an Anniversary Mode, which lets you play it in widescreen and have as many lives as you want. And there will be chances to nab in-game medallions for taking on special missions. The best part about this just might be its release date.

Sonic Origins will drop its wonderful four-game package on June 23. For those who don’t know, that is Sonic’s birthday. And what better gift to give a hero than playing these classic Sonic games over and over again. A trip back to the beginning is never a wrong move to make.
