The smartest person in the Marvel universe is heading to TV. A while back, news broke that Lunella Lafayette, better known as Moon Girl, and her big red dinosaur were getting their own Disney series. It’s really exciting, especially for younger fans who want more heroes their age doing cool things. (Or for adults like me who enjoyed her quirky and complex comic run.) Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur will debut in Summer 2022. And none other than Laurence Fishburne will be its executive producer. Plot details continue to be sparse, but a Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur teaser with cast member Fishburne shows off the series’ awesome animation style. And, we now have a first look at the show’s main characters!
That was incredibly cute… and so are these photos of the lovely characters. Meet Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur‘s animated cast!
Here’s a quick rundown of her story for those who aren’t familiar. In the comics, she’s an elementary-aged student who is miles smarter than her classmates; however, she cannot get into any of the higher education schools. Her peers pick on her, calling her “moon girl,” so she spends much of her time experimenting and alone. She discovers a Kree Omni-Wave Projector and inadvertently opens a portal that allows Devil Dinosaur into NYC from his time period.
He’s on a vengeful mission against Killer Folk, a group determined to get their hands on that projector. Lunella is not only brilliant but also an Inhuman. Throughout her run, she links up with several Marvel characters like Riri “Ironheart” Williams and Hulk throughout her journey. She even comes up with her cool heroine outfit and reclaims the Moon Girl name. Moon Girl is truly a delight.
In the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur teaser Fishburne, who voices The Beyonder, excitedly urges fans to take a first look at the upcoming show. We then see Luenella zipping around with her trademark outfit on, including her goggles, helmet, and rollerskates. It’s colorful, bright, and bold. And of course, it wouldn’t be a teaser without Devil Dinosaur, who always has his girl’s back. We don’t get to hear Diamond White voice the character nor see anyone else like her grandma Mimi (voiced by Alfre Woodard), mom Adria(Sasheer Zamata), and dad James Jr. (Coming 2 America’s Jermaine Fowler). Casey, aka Moon Girl’s “manager” and friend, will be voiced by Libe Barber and Gary Anthony Williams lends his voice as Pops, Moon Girl’s granddad.
But it is all good because we know what they look like and there’s a lot to look forward to. Her parents owing a roller skating rink with mom as the DJ?! How cute. The series ages Lunella up to 13, but we get the feeling she won’t lose an ounce of her courage, wit, brilliance, or resourcefulness.
