The moment that Scream fans have been waiting for is finally here! A Scream (2022) trailer exists and we couldn’t be more hype about returning to Woodsboro. The fifth installment of the famed horror franchise appears to be bringing things full circle for Sidney, Dewey, and Gale from its name (after the original film) to a new swath of characters to take up the mantle. If there is a future, that is.

Many fans went to theaters on October 10 and 11 to watch the film that started it all in theaters to celebrate its 25th anniversary. For some, it was the first time they could watch it on the big screen. For others, it was a chance to relive the glory of the classic opener and experience those iconic moments with other diehard Scream lovers. There were also rumors that the new Scream trailer might drop during those showings. Of course, that didn’t happen but it doesn’t matter. We have the goods now!
In the clip, we meet Tara Carpenter. She answers the phone and has a terrifying encounter with Ghostface, whose voice is deeper and more ominous. Dewey calls Sid, who is living her life elsewhere, and lets her know that attacks are happening again. We get the great line “I’m Sidney Prescott, of course I have a gun.” Sid comes home and meets Sam, telling her that she knows what it’s like to live this life of horror. It turns out Ghostface is going after people related to the original killers!! OMG. Sid ends up back at Stu’s house once again to face her gory past. The clip ends with Ghostface saying “Hello Sidney, it’s an honor.” Whew. So the OG trio and fresh meat are all in quite the bloody conundrum. We hate it for them but love to see it.
In addition to the trailer for over-dissection, there’s also a very interesting official Scream poster. It features the famous Ghostface, who appears to have a mask upgrade, with his classic horror weapon dripping with blood. The tagline, “It’s Always Someone You Know,” put fans in a frenzy about who is either the killer or pulling the strings behind the scenes. Remember, the latter is what Roman did for a while. This person would have to be connected to Sidney in some way but, at this point, we are running out of options because, well, most of the people she was close to are dead…or maybe not.

There are some possible outliers out there, people we haven’t met who could be involved with this new string of murders. Maybe it’s one of Stu or Billy’s relatives (you cannot convince me they are somehow alive, I’m sorry) or someone Sid grew up with. Maybe they want to finish what’s been going on for 25 years. Who really knows?! That’s the fun of this franchise. The Scream content continues to flow and the countdown is on until we finally get to face Ghostface again on January 14, 2022.
