JURASSIC WORLD: CAMP CRETACEOUS Trailer Returns to the Park

In keeping with the tradition instituted by the Steven Spielberg-directed Jurassic Park films, Colin Trevorrow’s 2015 entry in the franchise, Jurassic World, capped an onslaught of chaos, destruction, trauma, and even death with a veritably happy ending. The kids at the center of the story got out okay. Ditto the top-billed adults (Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt). But lest you forget about the grisly fate that befell Howard’s assistant, things may not have gone so smoothly for the great many other park-goers on that fateful day at the eponymous tourist attraction. Now, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous raises the question: What about everyone else?

The first trailer for the animated television series, which takes place alongside the events of Jurassic World, introduces us to a group of teenage park-goers. And in this group of plucky young heroes, there seems to be one of every sort: the adventurous leader-to-be, the nervous kid who pukes off the side of the safari van, the perpetually plugged-in one who’s chronicling the whole ordeal on her vlog, and… well, it’s only a two-minute trailer, so I’m sure we’ll get a better sense of what the remaining characters have to offer come the season’s release on Netflix on September 18.

Meanwhile, the trailer does show off a good amount of dino animation. We see long-necked leaf-eaters, high-flying pterosaurs, that one gargantuan aquatic thing that really made a name for itself in Jurassic World. And—it wouldn’t be a Jurassic Park entry without ’em—the most fearsome of all: the Tyrannosaurus rex.

In keeping with the medium of animation, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous seems to soften the edges of the story a bit with a chipper vibe and goofy humor. But hey, that actually may be a nice change of pace, considering the status quo of absolute peril keeping a stronghold on the Jurassic series.
