STAR WARS Imperial March Meets THE BATMAN in an Epic Mash-up

Last week at the DC FanDome event, the first teaser for The Batman blew fans away. Within a matter of minutes, director Matt Reeves quelled any misgivings about this latest reboot of the Dark Knight. But after a few views, fans noticed something. The music used in the teaser—presumably by Michael Giacchino, The Batman‘s composer—was pretty reminiscent of another famous theme from film history. One also associated with a tall guy in a cape wearing black. We’re talking about “The Imperial March” from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

YouTuber Samuel Kim heard the similarities between those two themes. He combined them into one epic musical mash-up. Listen to Kim’s Star Wars: The Imperial March x The Batman Theme below:

As someone in the video’s comments pointed out: “It’s the Dark Lord meets the Dark Knight.” It turns out they make beautiful music together. We think it’s better that they musically collaborate, since we don’t really think they should fight. Sure, Darth Vader has the Force. But let’s not forget, Batman has beat Superman on more than one occasion. It would get ugly real fast. The version of The Batman theme used is Kim’s “Epic Version,” which he dropped shortly after the trailer was released.

The Samuel Kim Music YouTube channel has a lot of other great mash-ups like this one. Kim even brought together the theme from the Justice League animated series with the MCU’s Avengers theme. Not surprisingly, they go together like peanut butter and jelly. And it reminds fans why these are the two greatest superhero teams of all time.

For an even bigger pop culture cinematic overload, Kim mixed themes from Star Wars with Marvel and DC Comics into an epic seven minute musical montage. It shouldn’t work as well as it does, but the final product is pretty astounding. Plus it will remind you of why all of these cinematic franchises endure the way they do: their iconic musical scores.
