With the release of The Rise of Skywalker last year, the 9-part Skywalker Saga that George Lucas conceived of decades ago is complete. Now that it’s all said and done, one fan is proposing that all of the titles for each film are actually attached to the wrong chapters. Once you see his video explaining why, it’s kind of hard to argue with his logic.
A TikToker going by the name Fake Disney Facts released a brief video where he explains why each Star Wars chapter has the wrong title, and swaps them out with the right one. You can check out his “Ted Talk” (via Twitter user Kris Tapley) down below:
It’s actually hard to argue with the logic that Episode I should have been called The Rise of Skywalker, given that it deals primarily with the discovery of young Force prodigy Anakin Skywalker. And with an opening crawl that claims “The Dead Speak!,” should’t that final chapter really have been called The Phantom Menace instead? The crawl even refers to Palpatine as “the phantom Emperor!” It’s all right there!
The only argument I can make with the title swapping in this video is changing The Force Awakens to The Empire Strikes Back. At the end of the day, the First Order isn’t really the Empire proper. Even with the revelation in the last episode that Emperor Palpatine was behind it all, it doesn’t totally hold water. If the Empire is the space fantasy equivalent to Nazi Germany, then the First Order is more like a Neo-Nazi rogue state. They’re only officially “the new Empire” when they destroy the Republic and take over the galaxy in Episode VIII. I’m just sayin.’
Maybe one day in the far future, someone will remake the entire saga. I know it sounds blasphemous, but eventually someone will. Maybe it will seem less sacrilegious if they just switch the titles around. Imagine The Skywalker Saga 2.0, brought to you by a TikTok video from 2020. Stranger things have happened.
