The Best Moments from DISNEY FAMILY SINGALONG: VOLUME II

Disney’s first Family Singalong was such a huge hit with viewers, ABC had a second night of stars serenading (while practicing safe social distancing) some of the most beloved and beautiful songs from the Mouse House‘s deep catalogue. American Idol‘s Ryan Seacrest hosted a special Mother’s Day edition of big names giving big performances of some of our all-time favorite tracks. It was even better than the first special. From John Legend and Jennifer Hudson to Idina Menzel and Ben Platt, it featured some truly unforgettable performances. Also Katie Perry and her dog dressed up like elephants to sing a song from Dumbo. Here are some of the highlights from the Disney Family Singalong: Volume II that ABC has shared online.

Note: You can watch the entire show at ABC.com via your cable provider. The first special also eventually made its way to Disney+.

The Muppets Open the Show

Kermit and Seth Rogen led a classic Muppets opening song featuring updated lyrics. It was a fun, uplifting start, and also proved that even in a galaxy of stars Miss Piggy shines brightest.

Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, and Walter Russell III sing “Hakuna Matata”

The cast of the live-action The Lion King, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, and Donald Glover, teamed up with young Broadway star Walter Russell III for a fantastic version of “Hakuna Matata.” Definitely make sure you check out the entire performance.

Disney on Broadway Stars Perform “You’ll Be In My Heart” from Tarzan

Disney on Broadway stars Merle Dandridge, Heather Headley, Adam Jacobs, Caissie Levy, Kara Lindsay, Kevin Massey, and Josh Strickland did a stunning rendition of Tarzan’s “You’ll Be in My Heart.” In a show full of more famous names and songs it was still a standout moment.

Keke Palmer and the Dancing with the Stars Cast Perform “Zero To Hero” from Hercules

Lindsay Arnold, Alan Bersten, Witney Carson, Val Chmerkovskiy, Jenna Johnson, Sasha Farber, and Emma Slater from Dancing With the Stars brought to life Keke Palmer’s performance of “Zero to Hero” with a choreographed dance number that both fills us with joy and makes us feel embarrassed we haven’t picked that one towel up off the floor for a week.

Idina Menzel and Ben Platt Team Up  For “A Whole New World”

Frozen‘s Idina Menzel joined Tony-winner Ben Platt for a duet of one of the greatest Disney songs ever, Aladdin‘s “A Whole New World.” If ABC is looking for advice, the third Disney Singalong can just be the two of them.

Halsey’s “Part Of Your World” from The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid might feature the best Disney soundtrack ever, and Halsey, with Ariel-like hair, showed why with a gorgeous take on “Part of Your World.”

Now we need ABC to post Rebel Wilson’s phenomenal rendition of Ursula’s “Poor Unfortunate Soul” from earlier in the show.

A Costumed Katy Perry Sings “Baby Mine” with Her Poodle

Katy Perry’s sang a beautiful rendition of “Baby Mine” from Dumbo. It was a perfect choice for the Mother’s Day telecast. But what really made it special was the pregnant mother-to-be wore matching elephant costumes with her poodle Nugget.

NUGGET!

Anika Noni Rose Returns for “Almost There” from The Princess and the Frog

Princess Tiana herself, Anika Noni Rose, returned to sing “Almost There” with R&B duo Chloe x Halle. It’s been 11 years since the film came to theaters and Rose’s voice sounds better than ever.

John Legend and Jennifer Hudson’s “Beauty and the Beast” Duet

……Wow. WOW! Oscar-winners John Legend and Jennifer Hudson teamed up for one of the best covers of one of the best Disney songs of all-time. And they somehow exceeded our oversized expectations. This was incredible, and we neeeed the full version made available—in every form on every platform—now.

Shakira’s “Try Everything” from Zootopia

The ageless Shakira not only sang her song “Try Everything” from Zootopia, she also played the drums for it. It was inspiring enough we almost got off or couch while watching it. Almost.

The show also included a moving version of Coco‘s “Remember Me” by Miguel and Christina Aguilera. Josh Gad (with a hilarious cameo from his parents) sang “When I Am Older” from Frozen 2. And there was a mind-blowing Mary Poppins double-dip of “Step in Time” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from (many versions of ) Derek Hough, Hayley Erbert, and Julianne Hough.

We don’t know how a third Singalong will top this. And we can’t wait to find out.
