From the mind of Nicolas Ghesquière, the shoot places a number of Vuitton muses including Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Rinko Kikuchi, Cody Fern, Jennifer Connelly, Angelica Ross, Sophie Turner, Jaden Smith, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and more on the covers and posters for fictional pulp films and books. According to the notes from the high-fashion house that accompany the lookbook, “Fashion is a novel, and the Pre-Fall 2020 collection embarks on a narrative journey where the garments tell their own tales. In such a ‘wearable library,’ each outfit writes its own chapter made up of romantic monologues.”

We adore what could have been a kitchsy concept brought to life with so much passion and skill. Some of our favorites are Emma Roberts rocking neon pink in The Dragon Slayer, Rinko Kikuchi in the retro-futuristic work outfit of our dreams in Danger Zone, Laura Harrier channelling nothing but ’70s chic in Forbidden Games, Sophie Turner looking like the evil stepmother we’ve always dreamed of in The Devil’s Manor, Cody Fern and Billie Lourd giving us pure Teen Witch vibes in Secret Spell, Samara Weaving in red short shorts and a cozy jumper in Rival, and Deepika Padukone—who becomes the first Bollywood star to front an international Louis Vuitton campaignin some killer fall fashion in Don’t Turn Around. Though honestly, every single one of these creations could adorn our walls in pride place and we’d be incredibly happy about it.

The inspiration behind these gorgeous images are classic painted book covers of yore. The kind that you can find in any thrift store that were all the rage in the ’70s and ’80s. As is reflected here, most of the books were sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, though they also shared similarities with the noir and pulp crime novels that came before. It’s nice how many of the acting talent included here are genre fans and stars themselves as well as the little nods—check out Léa Seydoux’s Exorcist shirt—that are built into the shoot. Anyone who spent their childhood’s trying to spook themselves silly will likely get a kick out of the nostalgia heavy wonder of this beautifully put together shoot that combines our love of horror, reading, fashion, and great graphic design.
