POKÉMON SWORD and SHIELD Trailer Reveals New Poké Battle Tactics

With only three months until the release of Pokémon Sword and Shield, we’ve just gotten a new trailer that is jam-packed with exciting reveals of the new abilities and battle tactics the game will introduce.

The first new ability that we’re shown is Galarian Weezing’s “Neutralizing Gas,” which renders all other Pokémon’s attacks useless! The power clearly makes an impact as we see it neutralizing Gastradon’s Storm Drain attack and Rotom’s Levitate. The trailer also reveals the return of Held Items after their notable absence in Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee and Pikachu.

A new held item, “Room Service,” lowers a rival Pokémon’s speed when used by a Psychic-type during a Trick Room attack. The second new held item that we get to see is “Eject Pack,” which gives the player the ability to automatically switch out their Pokémon if their stats are lowered.

As for new attacks, the footage offered up a powerful new move called “Breaking Swipe” that lowers the attack of all targets hit!

Fans of Corviknight will be excited to see their secret ability finally revealed. The trailer shows off “Mirror Armor,” which reflects any stat-lowering effects. The highly-anticipated Dynamax power is also on display here, as we see Giant Raichu utilizing a move that sees Pokémon shrug off any moves that cause flinching. These max moves also have “powerful secondary effects,” as we see Machamp utilizing the giant power to create a shockwave and send a giant fist pummeling into his opponent. The Dynamax powers will clearly be center stage, as the final act of the trailer centers on a whole bunch of giant Poké action!

In case you’re not fully up to date on the new entries of the Poké-lore, the Generation VIII games are set in the Britain-inspired Galar regions and will center on the player as they traverse the steampunk-style world and try to become the regions best Pokémon trainer! We cannot wait for Pokémon Sword and Shield to hit shelves on November 15.
