Larian Studios Announces BALDUR’S GATE 3 Is In Development (Updated)

Updated: Larian Studios, the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2, has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate III is in development in conjunction with Wizards of the Coast! While the company didn’t announce a release date, the game is included in the Google Stadia‘s launch title list for November 2019.

Here’s a teaser trailer to get you excited for the long-awaited sequel in the classic D&D setting.

The original post follows below.

A mysterious new logo on the Larian Studios website has set the internet ablaze with rumors that a new Baldur’s Gate video game might be in development. Coming from the makers of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the obvious guess for the “III” shown on their website would be the next installment in that game series. But internet sleuths have combed through the code on the website to find “BaldursGate” hidden in the metadata for the video, seemingly confirming the project in development.

This isn’t the first time that a new entry in the video game franchise has been teased; last fall, not only did one developer say he knew he was working on it, a post on the website RPG Codex said that “a friend” mentioned Larian Studios had acquired the license. Neither of those rumors were confirmed and the development of the game has since remained a mystery.

While no official confirmations have been made, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke teased on Twitter that “the coming days will be fun,” which indicates that the studio may be making an announcement of some kind at E3.

Baldur’s Gate also returns as a setting later this year in the next official Dungeons & Dragons adventure book from Wizards of the Coast, Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus, so it might be a big year for fans of the setting. The book, which features content geared toward players level 1-13, currently has a planned September release.
