The latest teaser for Godzilla: King of the Monsters makes one thing very clear: don’t call it a comeback, because this has always been Godzilla’s world and we’re all just living in it. And we’ll be able to continue living in it if he can save us from total annihilation.
The newest fast-paced, action-packed promo for the film is set to L.L. Cool J’s classic hit “Mama Said Knock You Out.” The trailer shows many ancient beasts coming to life, each making their entrance to the ultimate battle arena: the whole world. Mankind’s only chance of survival is a “long shot,” as humanity must turn to the most fearsome creature of them all, Godzilla. He’s their only hope to defeat Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah, in what promises to be one of the greatest monster battles of all-time.
“Long live the king” indeed.
We’re just about ready to run through a wall anytime we see a new ad for the film, because there is nothing more pure in movie history than watching Godzilla fight a bunch of other beastly titans, but watching that happen in montage form to “Mama Said Knock You Out” has us ready to tear walls down with our teeth.
What’s crazy is that the lineup of monsters the film is going to give us is equaled by the amazing cast, though maybe we shouldn’t be that surprised. It’s probably easy to get people to say “yes” when you describe the movie as “Godzilla fights everyone and it looks amazing.”
It might not be a comeback, but we’re glad to have Godzilla around again.
Directed by Michael Dougherty (Krampus), and starring Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Sally Hawkins, Kyle Chandler, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Charles Dance, Bradley Whitford, and David Strathairn, Godzilla: King of the Monsters stomps into theaters with his giant creature brethren on May 31.
