McDonald’s is Selling a Pikachu McFlurry in Japan

Last week, McDonald’s Japan started asking its Twitter followers to guess what Pokémon-themed McFlurry flavor they were planning to release. Perhaps it’s just the bias of my Western palate, but the answer seemed pretty obvious based on the given options. Of the six choices (via RocketNews24), three seemed pretty odd: broccoli, based on Bulbasaur; purple potato, based on Gengar; and habanero, based on Charmander. The other three flavors all seemed like they could be solid: Jigglypuff’s white peach, Squirtle’s sparkling Ramune soda, and Pikachu’s chocolate and banana. But even if the former two seemed like worthwhile contenders, any Pokémon fan knows not to bet against Pikachu.

Now, as Kotaku notes, the franchise mascot has unsurprisingly won out–a Pikachu-themed chocolate and banana McFlurry is coming to McDonald’s Japan. The brown and yellow ice cream treat will be available starting July 14th and wrapping up in August. It will also come in six different cups, each showcasing a different Pikachu facial expression:

As one Kotaku commenter notes, a lot of countries around the world can get a chocolate and banana McFlurry, but with Despicable Me 3 Minions branding instead of Pikachu. So if it’s simply the flavor you’re after, you might not be out of luck outside of Japan.

Are you satisfied with the Pikachu flavor, or would you have rather tried one of the others? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
