Nothing is better than a good mashup, right? While it’s super fun to watch a YouTube video of two unlikely properties being mashed together (like Bob Ross and Fallout 4, for instance), sometimes it can be fun to find the combinations that are so natural it makes you wonder why no one thought of it before.
One such mashup is this video masterpiece from the YouTube channel Darth Blender, where they took video from classic Star Trek, dubbed it over with dialogue from Star Trek: Beyond, and set it against Beastie Boys music. Regardless of your feelings about the most recent Star Trek film, you’ve got to admit that this is a pretty brilliant use of the film’s dialogue. And since the new Star Trek films take place in an alternate universe to Shanter’s Star Trek, it’s pretty fun to see the worlds collide in a new way, even if it’s just for the internet. It’s also a great reminder how awesome classic Star Trek is. Seriously. If you haven’t seen the series from the sixties, you’ve got to remedy that right away.
Classic Trek isn’t the only thing getting it’s time in the sun in this movie. The Beastie Boys also get a tip of the hat as the background music for the trailer. And this is the second fan-made trailer we’ve seen with Beastie Boys music this month! Earlier this month a fan-edited trailer of Rogue One was released with the Beastie Boy’s “Sabotage” in the background. I’m definitely on board with their music showing up in more trailers, and maybe even some official trailers, too. Regardless of where Beastie Boys tunes pop up next, this mashup trailer is simply golden, and is fun for Trekkies and Beastie Boys fans alike.
What do you think of the mashup? What’s another Beastie Boys mashup you’d like to see? Tell us in the comments!
