Star Trek: Discovery is making its long awaited return for its second season next month on CBS All Access, after that doozy of cliffhanger that found the show’s titular ship meeting the original U.S.S. Enterprise out in space at the end of season one. Fans have been eager to see how the Discovery crew deals with the legendary ship’s Captain Pike (Anson Mount) taking the reins of their vessel, not to mention the arrival of Mr. Spock, now played by Ethan Peck. Now we have a brand new, very action-packed trailer for the upcoming season, which you can watch down below:
After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, season two of finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals, and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock.This trailer shows us a Spock who is not only bearded, but also…smiling?? An emotional Vulcan? Yes, he most certainly is, although this aspect of the character is technically in established continuity and not an error. The original pilot episode of Star Trek, “The Cage,” showed Spock smiling and expressing emotion, and that episode technically happens in the same time frame as Discovery. Maybe now we’ll know why!We also get a glimpse of the returning Klingons (finally with hair!), as well as the return of Michelle Yeoh as the evil alternate universe version of Captain Philippa Georgiou, who is now a part of Starfleet’s Black Ops unit, Section 31—a name that should sound familiar to long time Star Trek fans.
