Meet THE POWERPUFF GIRLS’ New Sister, Bliss

We’ve been hearing rumblings since early summer that the new  The Powerpuff Girls reboot would be spicing things up by adding a fourth team member into the mix. Earlier this month, we got word that South African singer Toya Delazy would be providing the voice for the yet unnamed character. Now we have the full scoop on the new addition to those legendary heroes of Townsville.

Thanks to the folks at Vulture, we’ve learned that  Cartoon Network will soon be introducing Bliss, the older sister of triplets Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, in The Powerpuff Girls: The Power of Four, the first chapter in a five-part Powerpuff Girls movie. You can catch your first glimpse of Bliss, whose powers include flight, teleportation, telekinesis, and super strength, in action down below. Plus, in a welcome bit of diversity, Bliss will be the first black Powerpuff Girl.

Naturally, the movie will delve into the backstory of the yet unseen sister. It seems that the Powerpuff Girls’ scientist father, the brilliant Professor Utonium, made Bliss long ago with the same formula of sugar, spice, and everything nice. However, instead of using Chemical X, he used the unstable Chemical W instead, which means that Bliss can’t really control her powers. This resulted in Bliss leaving Townsville, sending herself into a self-imposed exile. Adding to her murky past, we also learn that Bliss was (gasp!) once friends with none other than Mojo Jojo.

The Powerpuff Girls: The Power of Four is available for viewing on the Cartoon Network app. What do you make of the newest member of the Powerpuff family? Let us know in the comments down below.
