The Future of the X-Men Universe Could Be in Peril

If you were eagerly anticipating an X-Force movie featuring Deadpool and his new buddies Cable and Domino after the success of Deadpool 2, well…you might want to prepare to be let down. According to new rumors, including a very telling tweet from Deadpool’s co-creator Rob Liefeld, it’s probably not happening anytime soon – or ever. And it’s all because of the upcoming merger between Disney and Fox. Join host Jessica Chobot on today’s episode of Nerdist News Edition as she breaks down why these future days might never come to pass.[brightcove video_id=”5991242194001″ brightcove_account_id=”3653334524001″ brightcove_player_id=“rJs2ZD8xâ€]It seems Fox has a couple of months before the ink is dry on the Disney deal to put an X-Force movie into production, according to SuperBroMovies writer Daniel Richtman, and since there’s next to no way a feature film of that size is happening in that much of a time crunch, we can probably kiss director Drew Goddard’s potential film goodbye. Based on what has happened with the Netflix Marvel universe, Disney seemingly wants to take control of all their Marvel properties back again and put them under one roof in advance of the launch of its Disney+ streaming service. So that means all those Fox Marvel properties that have been announced as being in development these past few years, like Kitty Pryde, Multiple Man, Silver Surfer, the Fantastic Four kids and Channing Tatum’s Gambit movie are now shelved. It doesn’t mean we’ll never see those characters pop up on the big screen, but when they do, it’ll likely be in a rebooted MCU version of the X-Men, which at this point seems inevitable. Now Deadpool IS a cash-cow in his current Ryan Reynolds incarnation, so Disney might want to at the very least make a Deadpool 3 in some form, but other than that big maybe, it might be time to start etching out that gravestone: “Fox Marvel Universe — 2000 -2019.”
