In the midst of a fever dream, have you ever wondered what it would look like if Jurassic ParkOpens in a new tab and The Hunger GamesOpens in a new tab invited Ready Player OneOpens in a new tab over for a threesome and somehow they had a baby that looked like The Running Man? Uncork’d Entertainment has. The result is an insane-looking amalgamation known as Jurassic Games.
Releasing just in time to bank on the high of the new Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom TrailerOpens in a new tab, we get the first look at Jurassic Games.Set in a vague near-future where humanity has completed its descent into Silicon Valley Roman Gladiator bloodsport, death-row inmates are randomly selected to compete in a virtual game known as The Jurassic Games. The rules are simple: be the last one standing. The stakes are high as death in the game equals death in the real world.
The trailer above, first revealed by The Hollywood ReporterOpens in a new tab, stars Adam Hampton (The Unusual Calling of Charlie Christmas) as Anthony Tucker, a man wrongly convicted of the murder of his wife. Should Tucker win the publicly televised game of dinosaurOpens in a new tab death, he will be reunited with his children (whom I assume know their dad didn’t murder their mom, otherwise…awkward).
Perhaps the most shocking thing about this film though is its release date. Jurassic Games drops on digital on June 12, followed by a DVD release on July 3. This has it bookending the release of another little dinosaur film you may have heard of, Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom, which hits theaters on June 22. So which will you see? The movie about a band of scrappy characters fighting for their lives on an island populated by the dreams of a madman? Or Jurassic Games?
