The Best Twitter Reactions to the IHOP/IHOB Fiasco

Just last week, the world was overcome by one of the greatest mysteries of the modern generation: What does the “B” stand for? The “B” in question, of course, was that at the end of world renowned pancake emporium IHOP’s announced new moniker, IHOB. The 60-year-old franchise hit Twitter on June 5 with the revelation that it would be replacing the final letter in its nominal acronym, leading flapjack junkies the world over to wonder which of the English language’s countless array of B-named treats would be replacing their beloved breakfast pastry as IHOP’s go-to menu item.

Everyone’s default theory was that the “B” didn’t stand for a particular dish at all, but instead to “Breakfast.” Logical! Benign! Altogether A-OK! But then came the news on this dreary Monday morning. The “B” doesn’t stand for breakfast, nor does it stand for anything that you’d likely want to eat for breakfast, or—let’s be real here—at an IHOP at any time of day. It stands for BURGERS.https://twitter.com/igzrap/status/1006163895839576066

In truth, IHOP isn’t actually changing its name to IHOB; it’s simply adding burgers to its menu, and is using the name-change gimmick to advertise the addition. Still, the whole ordeal has gotten people fuming in all sorts of comical fashions. So naturally, we rounded up a few of our favorite Twitter reactions to the IHOB fiasco…

Naturally, a few ‘net-savvy users utilized some old favorite memes to express their distaste for the new situation.

Even a few rival franchises got in the game with some shade…

In fairness to IHOP, it’s always healthy to try new things. But of course, the people want what they want. And we imagine IHOP will be realizing before long what the people really want from its kitchen.
