After Solo: A Star Wars Story came up short of its box office projections, a rumor swirled that Lucasfilm was backing away from the anthology films and putting them on hold.
However, those reports weren’t backed by Lucasfilm, even though there isn’t currently another Star Wars movie planned beyond next year’s Episode IX. Unofficially, there are signs the long-rumored Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff is not only going forward, it may even be happening sooner than we expected. Today’s Nerdist News unleashes the Force to provide you the answers! Join host and our resident nerf herder, Jessica Chobot, as she goes over a recent story in the Belfast Telegraph which casually mentioned that Lucasfilm is shooting the Obi-Wan movie there next year with Ewan McGregor reprising his role from the prequel trilogy. The report even specified the movie would take place during Obi-Wan’s years in exile.
The same newspaper reported George Lucas visited the area earlier this year to scout locations for the movie and personally sign off on them. That doesn’t sound likely, given that Lucas has been largely hands off since selling the franchise to Disney. Remember, one of the reasons Lucas did that was because he didn’t want to direct any more Star Wars movies.
The paper is reporting production will begin in April 2019.
Would you like to see Lucas return to direct the Obi-Wan spinoff movie? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
