Disney Streaming Service Confirms MONSTERS, INC. Series and Much More

Next year, Disney is going to challenge Netflix with its own streaming service featuring a wide selection of films and television shows from its vast library.

However, the war against Netflix won’t be won by old titles alone, not even with the availability of its newly acquired 20th Century Fox catalogue. Via  The New York Times, the Disney streaming service will have a wide variety of original series and films to entice fans, well beyond the eagerly anticipated  Star Wars TV series by director Jon Favreau. Monsters Inc. and High School Musical are among the highest profile shows in development, but there are also reportedly plans to give The Muppets a new series as well.

On the features side, Disney is rolling out live-action adaptations of Lady and the Tramp and The Sword in the Stone, as well as an unexpected remake of the hit 1987 comedy Three Men and a Baby. Additionally, writer and director Billy Ray is preparing a new adaptation of Don Quixote, while Jerry Spinelli’s Stargirl novel and Stephan Pastis’ Timmy Failure novels are also getting film adaptations.

As far as original material goes, Anna Kendrick is set to star in a film called Noelle as the daughter of Santa Claus, and we’re also getting Togo, a period story about a sled dog, and The Paper Magician, which is set at a school of magic.

The Disney streaming service is expected to launch in 2019. The title and pricing details will be revealed at a later date.
