Bob Ross’ THE JOY OF PAINTING Episodes Have Been Turned Into Bedtime Stories

There are plenty of effective sleep aids out there, whether it’s white noise, ear plugs, medicine, or anything else people have been using for years now. The internet has expanded our options greatly; Personally, I watch videos of livestreamers playing Super Mario Maker levels on YouTube, but that’s just me. Apps like Calm are probably better for most people, though, since they feature specifically curated audio designed exactly for this purpose. Now, Calm has taken audio from The Joy Of Painting With Bob Ross and re-used it as an audio series that will help put you to sleep, and that just sounds like it’ll make for a happy little bed. (via Ars Technica).

Speaking with the New York Times about the partnership, Joan Kowalski, the president of Bob Ross Inc., said, “We asked ourselves, ‘What would Bob do?’ Using his voice to help put people to sleep? Well, he would love that. […] We hear from people almost daily who are going on to YouTube to hear his voice. People back in the day were shy to tell him they fell asleep listening to him. They thought it would insult him. He loved it.”

It definitely seems like Ross himself would approve of his voice being used in this way, as one of his main goals was always to spread positivity and relaxation. He said as much himself in 1990, telling The Orlando Sentinel, “The majority of our audience does not paint, has no desire to paint, will never paint. They watch it strictly for entertainment value or for relaxation. We’ve gotten letters from people who say they sleep better when the show is on.”
