X-Men ’97 season one was a delightful surprise, transcending early fears that it was just a nostalgia grab for ’90s. kids. In fact, it was some of the best non-comics X-Men content ever. But it’s been two years since the season one finale, and fans have been waiting for any news on season two with bated breath. All we’ve seen are a few trailers at conventions, and some early merchandise art. Well, it finally looks like X-Men ’97 has a Disney+ premiere window, and it’s sometime in early summer. Not only that, but the show will have its world premiere at the Tribeca TV Festival. The 60-minute event is set for Saturday, June 13th, at 2:30 pm ET at the Shorts Theater at Spring Studios. Tickets go on sale on April 28.
Here’s a brief synopsis for season two of X-Men ’97 from the Tribeca Festival website:
A band of mutants use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them; they’re challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. Created by Stan Lee and Beau DeMayo.

Ok, that description could be any movie or television series about X-Men, to be honest. But given the season one finale, we know this synopsis is quite literal. Especially when talking about “a dangerous and unexpected new future.” At the end of season one, several of the X-Men find themselves thousands of years in the future, including Cyclops and Jean Grey. At the same time, many of their teammates wind up thousands of years in the past. In both timelines, they will have to face En-Sabah-Nur, the immortal mutant known as Apocalypse.
With a June 13 premiere date, we expect that the series will drop soon after on Disney+. At this point, we’re just waiting for an official release date from Marvel Animation. Although we suppose the date could extend into July. We will have to wait and see. We just know that after two long years, we can’t wait to see Marvel’s Merry Mutants again, and hear that iconic opening theme song play on our televisions. No one should ever “skip intro” to that.
