The ending of Wonder Man took quite a few fans by surprise. In the finale, Simon Williams finally had everything he’d ever dreamed of. He went from being a day player who often got into his own head too much to a leading man playing his childhood hero. But it all came at a grave cost that left him reconsidering what was important. He essentially outs himself as a superhero by breaking Trevor Slattery out of prison. The duo fly (yes, he can fly) into the unknown and the credits roll. But, that wasn’t always the plan. Wonder Man’s Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest revealed that there was an alternate ending to the series.
The duo spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Simon’s big sacrifice, saying that they’d love to see the characters again, perhaps in a season two. Most Marvel shows, especially those with characters who are widely lesser known, haven’t gotten that gift. But the end does beg for more between Simon and Trevor.
When asked about the alternate ending for Wonder Man, Guest said the following: “There was an alternate version where they performed in a black box theater together and levitated off the floor. That’s true. But essentially we knew it was always about these two narcissists who, for the first time in their lives, put somebody else in front of their own needs. Simon and Trevor both needed to learn that, and it’s hopefully rewarding to watch them do that for the right reasons and because they love each other, essentially.

Cretton said that the ending would always be emotional between the pair, and that Trevor would disappear only to write and put on this play. Interesting. But, Cretton says the ending that we saw was very good rom-com material, which I can agree with. Both Trevor and Simon learned to open up their hearts and be a lot less selfish, which is something that every universe needs more of.
