WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS TV Show Drops Hilarious Trailer and New Clips

Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows is a near perfect comedy gem, so fans were understandably a little worried when FX announced that would be creating a series based on the cult flick. But fear not! The first trailer has dropped and it is just as hilarious as the original, which is probably to do with the fact that it’s being helmed and written by Clement, with certain episodes directed by himself and Waititi.

Focused on a new group of house-sharing vamps, this time holed up in Staten Island, who have been “living” together for hundreds of years, What We Do in the Shadows follows the four immortals and their human familiar as they deal with day-to-day life and reckon with the appearance of their ancient leader Baron Afanas.

The core cast is really exciting, as we get to meet Matt Berry as the roughish British vampire Laszlo; Kayvan Novak as the group’s leader, a great Ottoman warrior known as Nandor the Relentless; and Natasia Demetriou as Nadja, a seductive and whip-smart woman who happens to be Laszlo’s wife. They’re joined by a new type of monster in a day-walking Energy Vampire played by Mark Proksch, and Nandor’s familiar Guillermo brought to life by Harvey Guillén. When the group’s old leader appears, they’re faced with their biggest challenge yet… world domination!

This first trailer promises a whole bunch of surreal laughs, just like the film that inspired it, and we cannot wait to see more when the show hits FX on March 27 at 10PM ET/PT. Until then we’ll just have to rewatch the brilliant original which is currently streaming on Kanopy which you can access for free with your library card!
