Welcome to Derry broke our hearts in episode 7 with the tragic death of sweet Rich Santos. He died saving Marge’s life at the Black Spot and their adorable romance was over before it ever really began. Before this, fans were wondering if Marge and Rich would perhaps grow up and get married. There was also speculation that Richie Tozier from the IT films was Marge’s son. Well, the finale confirmed that Marge is indeed Margaret Tozier, the mother of Richie.
In the episode, Lilly, Ronnie, and Marge take the ancient weapon and go on a very dangerous yet brave mission to save Will. They track down Pennywise, who is in his little cart with a ton of soulless kids in tow, as he tries to make it outside of the point where the pillars can still affect him. It’s foggy, icy, and incredibly scary but the girls attempt to retrieve Will from the lineup.

Pennywise tries to attack them but the weapon prevents it from happening. He starts to circle around then and eventually gets his hands on Marge, dragging her away. Instead of killing her right away, Pennywise begins to talk to her, calling her Margaret Tozier. A confused Marge says that’s not her last name and Pennywise reveals that he knows it will be one day. He also says that Marge’s future son, Richie, and his friends are the ones that kill him. (Aww to Marge honoring her friend this way!)
But, time is not linear for him, so he hopes to kill Marge and prevent Richie from even being born. She’s baffled by all of this information but more afraid of nearly dying again. Her saving grace is Dick Hallorann, who manages to get in Pennywise’s head and prevent him from moving. Later on, Marge tells Lilly about what Pennywise said to her. Lilly thinks the entity was just messing with Marge’s head, but Marge is convinced that Pennywise could be going back to the past to try to kill their ancestors.
This is the perfect set up for future Welcome to Derry seasons, which are set to go to 1935 and 1908. It was heavily implied that Lilly’s mother could’ve been involved in the 1935 cycle but time and Pennywise have caused her to forget. That would partially explain why she’s popping pills a lot. And, we will certainly meet someone related to Marge as well in the 1930s. But, it is pretty cool to know that both Marge and her son Richie were able to face off against Pennywise and live to tell the tale.
