Last week at London Toy Fair, Games Workshop revealed a collaboration with Funko Pop!Opens in a new tab to create a line of 41st millennium-inspired miniatures. Artist Sarah Kaiser of Games Workshop described how the conversation when she was first approached for the project: “When the licensing team approached me to ask for a bunch of tiny Space Marines, I said ‘Don’t we do that already?’ and they were like, ‘Yeah, like those, but slightly bigger, and cuter’.”

While the talented artists of Games Workshop are fluent in the visual vocabulary of Warhammer, finding a happy medium between the iconic (and grimdark) style of traditional Space Marines and the specifically stylized kawaii of Funko was the real challenge, the process of which was outlined on Warhammer CommunityOpens in a new tab.
The first wave of these inbound Funko Pops! represent the 4 most popular chapters of the Adeptus Astartes: Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Blood Angels, and Dark Angels (yes, they are a Chaos Legion, but we’ll pretend we don’t know their dark secret).

Who knows what other residents of the far future (or the nine-realms) may be Funko-ified. Personally, I’m hoping to get myself some Orks (I’ve always had a soft spot for the giant rockets strapped to the backs of Storm Boyz).
These miniatures will soon be available to grace your desks and shelves, and no, they won’t require assembly or painting.
