Bill Skarsgård was something of a revelation in the first It film. His stunning, terrifying turn as Pennywise the Dancing Clown gave us a villain for the ages, and gave him a career separate from his famous family. He’s continued to prove his talent in films like Assassination Nation and TV shows like Castle Rock.
He’s creeping back to screens with It: Chapter Two in September, but he’s also got another genre venture on the horizon: Villains, which just released its first trailer.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Mickey and Jules are lovers on the run, headed southbound for a fresh start in the Sunshine State. When their car dies after a gas station robbery, they break into a nearby house looking for a new set of wheels. What they find instead is a dark secret, and a sweet-as-pie pair of homeowners who will do anything to keep it from getting out.
The film also stars Maika Monroe, Kyra Sedgwick, Jeffrey Donovan, and Noah Robbins, and was directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen, based on their own script—which was featured on the 2016 Black List. The Black List, an annual list of the best un-produced screenplays chosen by those in the industry, is usually a great indicator that a movie is going to be whacky, wild, and lots of fun, so that bodes well for Villains. Judging from this trailer, it’s all of those things.
Villains arrives in theaters on September 20, 2019.
