The UnchartedOpens in a new tab games are no stranger to cinematography: J.J. Abrams is quoted as sayingOpens in a new tab that the intro of Uncharted 2 is “the best opening of a game, television show or movie” he’s ever seen. A movie based on the games his been in the works since at least 2014Opens in a new tab, but concrete news about this movie has been few and far between over the past few years. Now, though, the film has its star, as DeadlineOpens in a new tab reports that Spider-Man: HomecomingOpens in a new tab star Tom Holland will portray protagonist Nathan Drake in the Uncharted adaptation.
This project previously had scripts written by Joe Carnahan, David Guggenheim and Eric Warren Singer, but now Sony Pictures is working on another re-write that is based on Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, in which Drake and his thieving mentor Victor Sullivan travel to, among other places, the Rub’ al Khali desert, to look for the legendary lost city the Iram of the Pillars, which is written about in the Quran. It’s not a direct adaptation of that plot, though, since the movie will be a prequel, directed by Shawn Levy, who has worked on Arrival and the Night at the Museum series.

This is a big opportunity for Holland, a young actor who’s getting the chance to anchor two big-time movie franchises early on in his career. If his appearance on Lip Sync BattleOpens in a new tab is any indication, the guy is totally ready to be a star.
