The toys are back in town, but they’re not alone. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 from Pixar and Disney pits Bonnie’s old beloved toy against a very new, very modern addition to her room. And this new type of toy could make the rest of them obsolete.
Pixar and Disney have finally revealed the premise for Toy Story 5. Greta Lee (Past Lives, TRON: Ares) is joining as a type of toy we haven’t see in the franchise before. Here’s the official synopsis for Toy Story 5 to go with that teaser trailer:
In the teaser, fans are introduced to the new character Lilypad, a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee that makes Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime.
This first promo shows the old toys find their new colleague frightening. The film’s first official poster teases why. It shows Lilypad looking awfully smug and menacing underneath the tag line “it’s on.”
In a press release, director Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris talked about how their film moves the franchise forward and its big name newcomer. “It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favorite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology, and we’re thrilled to share this first glimpse with audiences. Having the remarkably talented Greta Lee bring Lilypad to life — balancing a playfully antagonistic tone with humor and heart — has been incredible.”
Lee isn’t the only modern tech toy getting in on the fun. Conan O’Brien is also joining the Toy Story playroom as a toilet training tech toy called Smarty Pants.
Will Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the other old-school toys fear toilet tech nearly as much as they do a new sinister Frog tablet? We’ll find out when Toy Story 5 comes to theaters on June 19, 2026.
