Netflix’s THE WITCHER Drops First Trailer

Netflix has been teasing their new series The Witcher—based on the popular novels and video games of the same name—ahead of San Diego Comic-Con. We’ve seen new images of Henry Cavill’s Geralt, his horse Roach, and other characters. Now, the first full-length trailer is here, and it looks like Netflix has an epic in the likes of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones on their hands.

“You can’t outrun destiny just because you’re terrified of it,” a voice says to Geralt in the trailer. “It’s coming for you.”

Indeed, destiny and magical intrigue are the lifeblood of this trailer, and the comparisons to Rings and Thrones are everywhere. A platinum blonde wigged hero? Check. Thrones rooms full of intrigue? You got it. A giant spider? Of course! A long speech about the power of chaos? Yeah, this thing is following a lot of familiar beats, but it looks exciting in its own right, and fans of the franchise are in for an epic treat.

Here’s the full synopsis from Netflix:

Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

In addition to Cavill, The Witcher stars Freya Allen as Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Jodhi May as Queen Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson as Eist, Adam Levy as Mousesack, and MyAnna Burig as Tissaia.

We’ll keep you posted as more information comes out about the show. The Witcher is set to debut on Netflix later this year.
