THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy Returning to Theaters With Extended Editions

Get your own fellowship back together because it’s time to relive our favorite adventure. The extra long version. Fathom Events is not only bringing Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy back to movie theaters in 2026. It’s screening the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings movies in theaters.

Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures are going big for the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Well, not just big. Long. The extended editions of all three of Jackson’s iconic The Lord of the Rings movies are getting a re-release in movie theaters. Fans will have two weekends early next year to see the entire (and we mean ENTIRE) trilogy on the big screen. They’ll first screen from January 16-18 and then from January 23-25. Tickets are already on sale.

In theaters where it’s available, the movies will also be offered in special DBOX presentations during the first weekend. And yes, of course, this massive re-release will include new merch. Participating AMC Theatres will offer a special popcorn bucket celebrating The Lord of the Rings extended editions in theaters. This popcorn bucket is described as a “limited-edition Collectible Map Tin complete with a Quest Magnet Set.” Meanwhile, Regal and select independent theaters will sell a The Lord of the Rings Trilogy “One Ring” design tin.

“The trilogy of films in The Lord of the Rings are remarkable cinematic accomplishments and made an indelible impact on fans with their stunning visuals, unparalleled storytelling, and epic performances from the cast – essentially raising the bar for what is possible on the big screen,” said Ray Nutt, Chief Executive Officer at Fathom Entertainment, in a statement. “As we celebrate the 25-year anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2026, Fathom is proud to join with Warner Bros. to present each of these incredible films, with the extended editions from Peter Jackson and in 4DX for the enjoyment of fans old and new.”

Combined, the extended editions of Jackson’s films add almost 3 three hours of extra footage to the trilogy. That’s more than 12 hours of sitting in a theater next January in celebration of The Lord of the Rings. Sounds like a lot…

And that’s only counting the first time we see them.
