Will Netflix’s The Gray Man be any good? It certainly has everything going for it. Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame alums Anthony and Joe Russo direct. The film also has an all-star cast. It features Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, and Billy Bob Thornton. It’s also based on a series from New York Times best-selling author Mark Greaney. And Netflix has invested heavily in the project with an eye towards launching an entire franchise. But nothing can guarantee a movie’s success. We won’t actually know if it’s good until it comes out. What we do know, though, and what the film’s first official images make abundantly clear, is that this is going to be one very attractive movie.
Netflix has shared the first glimpse at it’s upcoming film with a series of movie stills and behind-the-scene photos. Despite the film’s title, they offer a colorful look at the international thriller.
The streaming site also provided an official synopsis for the film, which explains why Chris Evans looks like he just pulled you over for not idling for at least five seconds at a Stop sign. From Netflix:
The Gray Man is CIA operative Court Gentry (Gosling), aka, Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.
Netflix also describes Evans’ Hansen as a “psychopathic adversary.” That haircut and mustache really help get that across. Tough break for the former Captain America, but the part requires what it requires.Even if that also meant rocking an ugly shirt.
Regé-Jean Page did not have to buzz his head for the role. He gets to look like this in the film. That’s good for both him and Bridgerton fans who missed the actor during season two. (This photo should also serve as his official audition to play the next James Bond, right?)
Ana de Armas also gets to look great in the film. She wears an incredible wig and a stylish coat in her first photo. Our bet is this ensemble will be very popular very quickly.
Ryan Gosling will have to get dirty in the movie. Which makes sense, since he’s on the run. But apparently there’s not enough dirt or danger to make his character look bad.
Don’t worry. He won’t spend the entire film caked in dirt and riding public transportation. He’ll also get to look like this.
Joe Russo, Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely wrote the script. The film also stars Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Wagner Moura and Alfre Woodard. In arrives in theaters first this summer on July 15. It then comes to Netflix the following week on July 22.
Will it be a success? If The Gray Man is even half as good as it is attractive it should be fantastic.
