Director Jim Jarmusch is nothing if he’s not a renaissance man. The auteur is best known for his classic indie fare like Stranger Than Paradise and Mystery Train, but over the last decade he’s developed an interest in creating offbeat genre flicks. For instance, the spy thriller Limits of Control in 2009, and 2013’s vampire love story Only Lovers Left Alive. Well, fans may rejoice as the director is back in the world of horror with his hilarious-looking new zombie movie The Dead Don’t Die.
The astonishingly funny trailer showcases Adam Driver, Bill Murray, and Danny Glover as hapless cops facing down a zombie apocalypse. It’s impossible for film fans to not notice the impossibly stacked cast of characters who are dealing with the new invasion. Included are Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, and Tom Waits.
It seems like Driver is Jarmusch’s new muse after their last collaboration Paterson, but this is a far cry from the thoughtful and poetic musings of the arthouse darling. This looks to be another of the director’s more experimental comedies, and anyone who has seen the Swinton and Tom Hiddleston starring Only Lovers Left Alive will know that when it comes to quirky horror Jarmusch is a force to be reckoned with. Whilst talk of the film was intriguing enough, now that we’ve seen the trailer, we’re officially obsessed as it looks like a timely new take on one of the most overdone horror tropes of all time.
There’s too many amazing moments to count, but we’re definitely very invested in Tilda Swinton’s make-up artist morgue attendant, Chloe Sevigny’s unimpressed looking cop, Rosie Perez’s cheery news anchor, and Tom Waits being, well, Tom Waits.
The Dead Don’t Die hits screens on June 14!
