We love two great tastes that taste great together… Especially when both those tastes are fabulously queer, deliciously bloody, and fangtastically divalicious. Yes, we’re talking about AMC’s The Vampire Lestat and The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, two shows that miraculously exist on the same platform. Now, I know from personal experience that The Vampire Lestat‘s latest season inspired a whole slew of AMAZING drag performers to pull out their fangs and transform into Lestat, Louis, Daniel, Armand, and more. And that makes me feel like it’s HIGH time that Dragula and The Vampire Lestat (known also as Queen of the Damned as it heads into season four) collaborated on a crossover episode. And happily, The Boulet Brothers think so too. At New York Comic Con, Swanthula and Dracmorda agreed that it’s high time for Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson to bring LouStat into the world of the Boulets.
Swanthula Boulet tells us of a potential The Vampire Lestat and Dragula crossover, “The door is open. Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson, they need to be on the show as guest judges. We need to cross-pollinate stars from the other franchises on AMC and Shudder. I mean, it’s like a no-brainer.”
And Dracmorda co-signed the idea of Lestat meets Dragula episode, noting, “We’ve been with them a couple of times at AMC events and AMC Shudder events, and they’re really great. We love them. We get along with Jacob really well, so I hope we can get them on the show.”
We hope so too, because we feel like a The Vampire Lestat-inspired Dragula episode would simply, in a word, slay. And we would LOVE to hear Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson’s take on the drag versions of their characters. (But let’s throw in Assad Zaman and Eric Bogosian too, please and thank you!)
Swanthula Boulet adds, “I am a super fan because I read all the Anne Rice books when I was a kid, all of them, The Vampires, The Witches, all of them. So I remember we were on our way to do the… We were at the Overlook Film Festival (in New Orleans), and we were going to fly to New York to do the AMC upfronts for the first time a couple of years ago. And Drac isn’t really an Anne Rice fan, so I binged the second season of Interview with the Vampire alone. And we were in New Orleans, and I was like, ‘Oh, this just fucking feels so correct.” And then we got to the Upfronts, and I walked in, and the first person I saw was Sam Reid! I was like, “Ohhhh.” It was like all of my worlds just crashed together. It was so good.”
But one often finds themselves becoming a fan of Anne Rice and Interview with the Vampire/The Vampire Lestat/Queen of the Damned before long… Especially when they have a fan in their lives. Dracmorda laughs and shares, “Yeah. Now we’re super fans, but then I was like, ‘Who the hell’s that?'”
“And I was like, ‘You have to watch it.'” Swanthula adds, “She’s like, ‘Fine, fine. I’ll watch it.’ Halfway through season one, like, ‘Ohhhhh girl, this is good.'”
“Oh my God, I love it now!” Dracmorda swoons to finish the thought, and it’s a sentiment that so many share in their hearts.
So, I think that’s it then; it’s settled. The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula NEEDS to do a crossover episode with The Vampire Lestat! Swanthula and Dracmorda want it to happen, and legions of ravenous fans everywhere crave it too!!!
