A lot of people who have anxiety about playing horror video games share the same complaint: they’re scary. And, you know, yes, that’s a pretty big part of it.
So many horror games create fear through isolation, the notion that you are, at every turn, completely on your own. You might be much more apt to take a journey into the terrifying if you could have some friends with you, right? Maybe all playing as cool teens working to solve a paranormal mystery? Then, my friends and ‘fraidy cats, feast your bloodthirsty eyes on the trailer for The Blackout Club.
From Question Games comes this trek into nightmares as you and your friends play a co-op mystery game where you’re trying to solve a small town conspiracy. Looks like from the teaser imagery there’s some kind of cult and maybe some dark magic or Other Gods stuff going on. According to the official synopsis, you, a teenager from a “small, modern town” awaken every morning covered in mud and scratches, with no memory of anything. You and your friends–who have similar Blackouts–bond over this secret and try to figure out what’s going on with you…especially now that your best friend is gone and a group of adults want you eliminated.
You can find out more about the game on its official website, but all of the concept art is gorgeous and evocative. The gameplay will involve finding clues, solving puzzles, and setting traps for your adult foes, so it sounds like a fun mix of Stranger Things, The Monster Squad, The Wicker Man, and like Phantasm or something. Either way, we’re in.
The Blackout Club is due out sometime in 2019 on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Are you jazzed? Let us know in the comments below!
