Even though it’s been all but confirmed for some time now, now it’s officially confirmed 100% from Matt Reeves himself — Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansonn are officially joining The Batman – Part II. They will play Harvey Dent and his wife (perhaps just fiancée in this movie), Gilda Gold. The two Avengers are trading their heroic roles at Marvel to play iconic DC villains. And yes, some SPOILERS here, but as readers of Batman: The Long Halloween know, Gilda Gold is not exactly one of the good guys. Reeves broke the news via social media, later confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

Also confirmed as coming back are Robert Pattinson as Batman, naturally, as well as Colin Farrell as Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, Jayme Lawson as Gotham City Mayor Bella Reál, and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez. It seems as if Zoe Kravitz won’t be back as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, which is a shame. Hopefully, she gets an HBO Max series much like The Penguin, as she’s a very deserving character for a spin-off of her own. Also, no word on if Paul Dano’s Riddler has a role, or if the Joker appears again. If this is an adaptation of The Long Halloween, they should all play a role.
The Batman – Part II has suffered delay after delay over the past few years. But it now seems that production will really begin soon. The current release date is 2027, a full five years since The Batman hit theaters. Apparently, this film will take place in the winter, immediately following the events of the previous film. Now it bums us out more that Catwoman won’t isn’t in this one. Because a holiday season-set Batman sequel with Selina Kyle and Oz Cobb would have been a nice Batman Returns homage. But we imagine there may be some casting surprises still to come. We still have a hunch that the Court of Owls plays a role in the film. We’ll have to wait and see.
