TMNT II Coming Back to Theaters for 35th Anniversary

For its 35th anniversary last year, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie returned to theaters for a special engagement. And loyal TMNT fans had no idea just how successful it would be. But 2026 is now the 35th anniversary of its sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. (Yes, that’s the one with the Vanilla Ice song). So now, it’s the sequel’s turn to return to theaters, for one full week, March 13th-19th. In a newly restored 4K version, no less. It will play alongside a never-before-seen featurette with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman. You can watch the announcement trailer for The Secret of the Ooze right here:

Last year, for the first film’s 35th anniversary, the 1990 classic went from a two-day engagement to a whopping four weeks in theaters. It even reached the Top 10 at the domestic box office, a rarity for a limited engagement re-release. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles even brought in almost $3.7 million in revenues. It seems lots of parents who grew up with the original film now want to share the first cinematic adventures of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael with their own kids. The original trilogy of films recently got a restoration for a 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray release last year. But nothing beats seeing it on the big screen with a tub of popcorn.

If the re-release ofTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze is as successful as the original, who knows? We may get a re-release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. The 1993 sequel is not quite as beloved as the first two. But hey, every movie has its fans. It recently got a 4K restoration, too. So go out and support The Secret of the Ooze. And maybe the whole classic trilogy gets a theatrical re-release from Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros.
