Recently, Taco Bell fans—with the help of Doja Cat—did the seemingly impossible. They made the dream of hungry impatient people with a love for combining cultural dishes come true. They got the chain to bring back its Mexican Pizza. That was a glorious, and tasty, day. The only problem was the whole thing did last that much longer than a day. Demand was so overwhelming that stores ran out of ingredients in just two weeks time. Considering what some people once did for a packet of Szechuan Sauce, it’s a miracle no one got hurt when the beloved item left the menu so soon after it returned. But rejoice, fellow Taco Bell customers, because our short national nightmare is over. The Mexican Pizza is back. Again.
Don’t worry about lunch (and possibly dinner) ever again. Just worry about long lines. Because on September 15, Mexican Pizza made its latest triumphant return. Taco Bell announced the item’s return to great fanfare (in news we first heard at CNN). And it has now returned permanently. Just as important, unlike in the past, the fast food chain will make sure stores have all the ingredients they need to keep serving the unique item.
That will mean making sure every Taco Bell can put have two crispy flour shells separated by a layer of beans and topped with pizza sauce, seasoned beef, tomatoes, and a “melted three cheese blend.” And it only costs $4.49. The fact the dish can also be sold vegetarian-style is just one of the many reasons its popularity endured even after Taco Bell removed it from its menu in 2020.
Taco Bell even released a TikTok musical that starred Doja Cat and Dolly Parton to celebrate the forever return of Mexican Pizza. The Taco Bell Mexican Pizza musical’s music was written by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear who are known for The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical. The show premiered on TikTok Live on September 15 at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET. Here’s a little taste of Mexican Pizza: The Musical.
So, once again, good job, everyone. No matter how many obstacles thrown in your way, you never gave up on the Mexican Pizza. And now, it will never give up on us again.
