SUPERMAN Cast Reveal Their Character’s 3 Favorite Movies

What our favorite movies are says a lot about us. That’s why we all love to post our top faves on social media any chance we get. So what are the favorite movies of the lead characters in the upcoming Superman? Well, Superman cast members David Corenswet (Superman/Clark Kent), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) answered the question “What are your character’s top three favorite films?” at a recent Superman trailer event, and their answers were interesting. Director James Gunn also gave one favorite movie for Superman, Lois, and Lex.

Gunn answered first, saying “For Superman, It’s a Wonderful Life.” Ok, that’s as wholesome and “Norman Rockwell Americana” as it gets, so that tracks. For Lois, Gunn said The Front Page, a black comedy about the newspaper business. Quite fitting for Lois, we think. As for Lex, he gave the sociopathic billionaire villain his best answer. He said that Lex’s favorite film was the cult horror movie The Human Centipede. Given that the film is about the machinations of a deranged lunatic who thinks of people as his puppets, we think that answer shows Gunn truly gets Lex.

As for the principal cast, David Corenswet’s picks for Clark’s favorite film can’t be argued with. He said Good Will Hunting, a movie about reaching one’s true potential, and the Disney classic Old Yeller (except for the ending, which Clark turns off before getting to), and Star Wars. Hey, Clark Kent has a lot in common with Luke Skywalker. Both are farm boys, raised by a kindly old couple who adopted them, and both have much bigger destinies involving saving the galaxy. So of course Superman loves him some Star Wars.

Brosnahan chose the 1987 film Broadcast News for Lois Lane (a true no-brainer), along with Annie Hall, and Inside Out. Diane Keaton in Annie Hall has a lot of classic Lois Lane energy, so we can see that one. As for Inside Out, well, it’s just a really good movie. Nicholas Hoult simply mentioned three of his current films out now—Nosferatu, Juror #2, and The Order. It’s a very mercenary answer, but that’s what is so very Lex Luthor about it. Sadly, we did not learn Krypto the Superdog’s favorite movie. We’re just going to have to wait for the next Superman press event to find out Krypto’s faves.
