The anticipation for more Stranger Things is KILLING us… metaphorically. But we honestly don’t know how we’ll survive the wait between Stranger Things 5, Volume 1 and Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 after watching this trailer. It was bad enough after just watching Volume 1. The stakes feel higher. Vecna is more prominent than ever. There are ominous balls of energy flying in the sky. And the idea of DEATH is being thrown around too casually for our liking. We repeat that the Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 trailer is referencing death like it’s nothing. And like Eddie Munson, we do NOT like this. It also has one TOTALLY creepy sequence.
What Happens in Stranger Things 5, Volume 2’s Trailer?
Okay, that was A LOT to take in. But what the heck is going on in the trailer for Stranger Things 5, Volume 2? Here’s what we see.

The Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 Trailer Takes Us Back to the Last Minutes of Volume 1
The trailer for Volume 2 opens where we left off in Stranger Things 5, Volume 1—and that’s Will having just discovered that he can tap into the powers of Vecna and the Upside Down. Meanwhile, Vecna has left the scene after massacring basically all the soldiers at the military compound in Hawkins and stealing back all the children he wanted for his creepy flesh tunnel experiments.

In the Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 trailer, we see the wreckage of that and then hear Will say, “We failed. We never stood a chance.” But Joyce assures him that “This is not over,” and offers him a tight hug.
We also get a shot of Mike looking up at the sky as red Upside Down light crackles across his face. Later on in the trailer, there’s another look at Will, Robin, and Mike that seems like it takes place some time near these sequences where Will’s eyes have gone white again, so he’s definitely tapping back into the hive, if Stranger Things 5, Volume 2’s trailer is any indication.
Max and Holly Are Trying to Escape Vecna’s Mind Prison
And we cut to Holly and Max as they seem to run through Henry’s memory prison looking for a way to escape. We see a hole that appears to lead into Max’s room, and a creepy wooden basement with a ladder leading who knows where. They also seem to find a white door in the middle of an empty field and walk through it. Is that a way home or another trap set by Vecna? The Stranger Things, Volume 2 Trailer isn’t telling.

But we do get many shots of Max and Holly running for dear life… So it’s absolutely not smooth sailing for this duo.
Steve, Dustin, Nancy, and Jonathan Learn New Secrets About the Upside Down in Stranger Things 5, Volume 2’s Trailer
The Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 then coughs up what the people really want to see, the Steve, Nancy, Dustin, and Jonathan crew. They’re still in the Upside Down, heading for Hawkins Lab. Dustin ominously intones, “This whole time everything we’ve ever assumed about the Upside Down has been Dead. Wrong.” WHAT?! Dustin seems scared, and so are we. We thought we had a handle on the Upside Down and Vecna, but Stranger Things Volume 1 already gave us a ton of new information. And the Duffer Brothers promise this season will explain the Upside Down completely, so we’re not surprised to get more.
Steve and Dustin are looking at some GIANT SWIRLING ENERGY in the lab ceiling. Dustin says, “Mother of God.” And we agree with that sentiment. WHAT IS THAT? Jonathan and Nancy seem to see something similar surging through the sky of the Upside Down. A bit later, we see Dustin and Steve look at a kind of slimy rip in the ceiling, which we don’t like the look of at all.

It doesn’t look great for our favorite team in Stranger Things 5, Volume 2’s trailer.
Eleven Is Trying to Find Vecna

Meanwhile, Eleven, freshly reunited with her sister, Kali/Eight, is desperate to find Vecna and defeat him in this Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 trailer. She wants Kali/Eight to kill him with her. Two is better than one when it comes to superpowered good guys. But is Kali/Eight on Eleven’s team?
Whatever plan Eleven has, Mike doesn’t like it much. We see shots of them clutching one another. And oh man, has Eleven shaved her head again? That cannot be good. She seems ready to use her powers like never before, though.

Vecna Is Back as Henry Creel and Himself
Speaking of Vecna, we have a feeling we’ll see much more of him in Stranger Things 5, Volume 2, based on its trailer. We see an eerie shot of Henry Creel in the rain, for starters. And then we see a WILD shot of Henry/Vecna in the air, and it looks like he’s cycling through different versions of himself. This sequence from Stranger Things 5, Volume 2’s trailer is one of the creepiest we’ve ever seen in Stranger Things, full stop. The next thing we know, he’s turning into Vecna, and he’s coming for Holly.

“It is time,” Vecna says, as we explosive power surging through the Upside Down, “For new worlds.”
Everything Else That’s in Stranger Things 5, Volume 2’s Trailer
In addition to all of the above, we see Murray driving his truck and yelling, “Showtime.” At some point, Dustin must get out of the Upside Down because he, Will, Lucas, and Robin appear to be in the back of that truck, holding on for dear life. Did we mention it’s getting shot at? Robin exclaims, “I kind of thought that was supposed to be the easy part.” But, what could ever be easy on Stranger Things‘ final season? Lucas seems to feel the same, he says in a very belagured tone, “It was.”

Meanwhile, Linda Hamilton is back as Dr. Kay, and yes, she has her gun out. Is she shooting at Murray’s truck? It’s hard to say. But Nancy is on top of that truck with a MAJOR bullet belt on and a gun ready to go as she shoots other military personnel. That’s as serious business as it gets—Stranger Things 5, Volume 2’s trailer is not playing around.
But, uh oh, are those DEMODOGS menacing Vickie at the hospital? Protect her! We’re pretty sure we see Max and Lucas in a precarious spot at the very same place. Max seems to still be in a coma in the real world.

Somewhere, Jonathan (we think) exclaims, “I don’t know what’s on the other side of any of this. If we want to stand a chance of surviving, we need to be a team.” And Mike and Dustin share a huge hug, displaying exactly that.
In quick shots, Robin turns the power up on the radio tower; a demogorgon gets zapped, possibly from that power; Dustin runs through the Upside Down; Nancy and Jonathan get blasted; Eleven uses her powers; Eleven, Kali, and Hopper seem stuck in some kind of windstorm; and Vecna prepares for battle. AH!
STEVE AND DUSTIN, STOP!

Of course, the most terrifying thing we see in the Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 trailer is Steve and Dustin casually talking about death. “If you die, I die.” They say to one another, echoing their exchange from Stranger Things 2. Well, it seems like they’ve made up since Volume 1. BUT AT WHAT COST?
