Only a handful of people have achieved the honorable status of becoming an EGOT winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony). As of February 1, Steven Spielberg joins the elite EGOT group after his win at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards. The filmmaker takes his seat among the greats for his production of Music by John Williams, which won in the Best Music Film category.
Spielberg already has four Emmys (The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Steven Spielberg Presents: A Pinky & The Brain Christmas, and Steven Spielberg Presents Taken), a Tony (A Strange Loop) and three Oscars (Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan) to his name. He now adds a Grammy to that list, marking his first Grammy nomination and win.
“Thank you to all the Grammy voters, whose recognition of Music by John Williams means the world to me and our Amblin team, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, and congratulations to our partners at Imagine and the Walt Disney Company,” Spielberg said in a statement.
“This acknowledgment is obviously deeply meaningful to me because it validates what I have known for over 50 years: John Williams’ influence on culture and music is immeasurable and his artistry and legacy is unrivaled. I am proud to be associated with Laurent’s beautiful film.”
Only 21 other people can say they’ve won at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony over their careers. Making 22, the iconic filmmaker joins legends such as Elton John, Audrey Hepburn, Viola Davis, and Rita Moreno. Here’s a complete list of Hollywood’s EGOT winners:
