Forget about the journey of Rey and learning about what caused Luke Skywalker to become a hermit on Ahch-To. The most important part of The Last Jedi is currently porgs. The bird-like creatures that call the rocky outcrops on Ahch-To home are the latest creative critters to join the Star Wars universe. They’re ridiculously adorable and have kicked off a furry avalanche of merchandise, memes, and fan art.
Target went whole-porg with their offerings on Force Friday II weekend and released a giant plush version of the animal. The four feet tall porg toy inspired artist Michael Pasquale of 800 Pound Productions. He imagined a porg as Totoro from Studio Ghibli‘s My Neighbor Totoro and this fan art was born:https://twitter.com/800lbProds/status/906275853721534465
Poporgo, Totporg, Porgtoro–it’s delightful by any name. Rey, BB-8, and a porg fit naturally into the world of Ghibli. I hope Pasquale runs with the concept and makes more mashups using these two franchises. He clearly has a thing for porgs. After all, he was the first person to get porg enamel pins into the market:
Since that release, he’s made some variant editions available. I mean, Princess Leia Porgana? Come on.
Visit 800 Pound Productions to get a My Neighbor Poporgo print or porg pins of your very own.
