STRANGE NEW WORLDS Follow-Up STAR TREK: YEAR ONE May Still Happen

Right now, for the first time in over a decade, no new Star Trek series is in production, or even greenlit. This is likely due to the changes that Paramount is currently going through, thanks to new owners Skydance. But one potential Star Trek series that was first teased last year might still have a chance at life. That would be Star Trek: Year One, which would center on Captain Kirk and Mister Spock’s first tour of duty on the Enterprise together. Essentially, the first year of the iconic “5-Year Mission.” We’ve learned that Strange New Worlds‘ showrunner, Henry Alonso Myers, told Trek Movie at the recent Saturn Awards that they’ve officially pitched Year One to Paramount+. Here’s what he had to say:

Yeah, we we’ve brought them [Paramount] a lot. We’ve done a lot to give to them. It’s in their hands right now. They’re taking a look at it, trying to decide it. I mean, there’s a lot of love for our show over there, and obviously a lot of love for Star Trek.

A potential Star Trek: Year One series would use the existing Enterprise sets from Strange New Worlds. But with that show wrapped up from a production standpoint, do those sets even still exist? According to Henry Alonso Meyers, they still do, at least for now. He said, “Well, our sets have not been destroyed yet. That is what I can say. That makes this the big decision for them.” He added, “We’re waiting to find out what they want to do.”

If Year One happens, much of the cast of Strange New Worlds would likely return. Aside from Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk, we’d obviously also see Ethan Peck return as Spock. Also certain to return are Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Martin Quinn as Scotty, and Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura. Not to mention, the upcoming final episode introduces Thomas Jane as Dr. McCoy and Kai Murakami as Sulu. That’s the entire main Enterprise crew from the original 1960s series. It’s possible that Paramount hedges its bets and just greenlights Year One as a limited series. With Star Trek celebrating 60 years in 2026, there should be at least one Trek project filming somewhere. Maybe this is the one.
