Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are coming back to the big screen soon in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. In that film, they will face a new enemy, Shadow the Hedgehog, as well as their ongoing nemesis Doctor Robotnik. And, as we see in the latest trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Doctor Robotnik’s grandfather is now in the mix, which means there are two diabolical Eggman folks running around. Good Lord.
In the clip, we see Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as they are held captive by Robotnik. Jim Carrey does double duty as grandfather and grandson, giving us double the villain for double the chaos. Of course, there’s also some fun moments, like when a kid mistakes Tails for a Pokémon, to the delight of Knuckles. The blue speedster has to tap into all his resources and cleverness to fight against his enemies, including Shadow, who wants to watch the world burn. He even notes that there will be nothing left for the Eggmans to rule after he is finished with it.
We don’t know why but does he really have to have a reason? After watching the Knuckles series, we were hoping to see a little bit of Wade but he’s not here. However, we do know that we will get some Shadow the Hedgehog backstory, as the trailer gives us a flashback of him interacting with a little girl in a research facility long before his beef with Sonic. Perhaps his story with her explains why he has beef with humanity.
What Is the Release Date for Sonic the Hedgehog 3?
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will come speeding into theaters on December 20. However, quite a few theaters will allow Sonic superfans to see it a day early at opening day fan events on December 19 at 3PM local time. That sounds like a really fun time. You can grab tickets here.
