SNL UK’s ‘The Last Supper’ Sketch Brings British Legends to Life

SNL UK brought late night laughs to audiences during its first ever show. Things got off to a good start with Tina Fey’s opening monologue, which had some familiar British faces. And things continued to go up from there with the show taking a humorous look at its current events and poking fun at a few iconic figures of the past and present. One big example of this was SNL UK’s “David Attenborough’s The Last Supper” sketch, which explored what makes Britain great by having a wild dinner.

George Fouracres portrays Attenborough, who says he selected a handful of history’s greatest Brits using his brother Richard Attenborough’s “Jurassic Park technology” to ask them what makes Britain. And funnily enough, this tech only lasts for one hour.

Jack Shep stands out as Princess Diana, complete with wide, flirty eyes. Winston Churchill, Isaac Newton, Mary Seacole, Benjamin Zephaniah, Freddie Mercury, Elizabeth I, and Cilla Black are also present. Tina Fey even joins the table as Agatha Christie, spyglass and all.

Instead of exploring what makes the UK grand in this SNL sketch, the guests argue about food because, well, it is a supper. It gets to the point where Attenborough completely gives up and decides to move on to the lovemaking portion of the evening. Well, that would be very interesting. And, as he says, he doesn’t have long left, so might as well enjoy it.

That joke is a nod to the real-life Attenborough, who is nearly 100 years old. It will remain to be seen if SNL UK can keep up with its long-standing American predecessor, but fans seem to love what they are seeing so far.
