What’s your favorite scary movie? For a lot of ‘90s horror fans, the answer is Scream. The slasher teen horror flick changed the face of the genre with its meta commentary and surprise twist of two killers. Fans thought the franchise would be a trilogy, but it returned triumphantly in 2011 with Scream 4. This sequel was also ahead of its time, commenting on people’s desires to film everything and seek fame through controversy. So, it is only right that Scream 4 has a fresh 4K UHD and Blu-ray Steelbook release with a ton of extras and special features. We were glad to get our hands on a copy of this release and it is sleek and packed full of entertainment. And, there’s even a digital copy that you can add to your online library with ease.
First, let’s get into the Steelbook artwork by gnah studios for the Scream 4 4K UHD and Blu-ray release. The cover has a menacing side profile of our favorite masked slasher Ghostface as he stares at a big Scream 4 logo. The inside, which has a disc for each format, includes an image of our ever-intrepid final girl Sidney Prescott with a knife in hand.
I particularly love the back of the Steelbook, which includes a webcam with blood splatters all around it and the scrawled words “Welcome Home, Sidney.” Of course, all of us at Nerdist are big-time physical media fans and this will be a really nice one to add to any growing (or already massive) collection.

Now, onto its features! Both discs have the film as well as the following Legacy Special Features:
- Feature Commentary with Director Wes Craven and Cast Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, and Neve Campbell
- Deleted and Extended Scenes
- Alternate Opening
- Extended Ending
- Gag Reel
- EPKs:
- B-Roll
- Soundbites
- Junket Interviews
- Trailers
- TV Spot
As you can see, Lionsgate did not skimp on the features that we all want to see. I won’t give away anything, but the deleted and extended scenes, alternate opening, and the gag reel were absolutely stellar.
Additionally, both the Scream 4 Blu-ray and 4K UHD also have these limited extras:
- The Meta of Scream
- Rebooting the Franchise: Scream 4 Revisited
- Ghostface Revealed!
- Wes Craven: The Maestro of Scream
The ode to Wes Craven, who helmed the franchise until his death 2015, was exceptionally touching as a long-time horror fan. And, of course, seeing Scream 4 in 4K is an immersive experience that totally changes a film that I’ve watched dozens of times over the years. Right now, you can grab your copy on Lionsgate’s website for a very fair price of $34.99 to enjoy all the goods.
