RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON Trailer Sets Up a Thrilling Journey

We’re hoping we can all safely return to movie theaters next year. For a lot of reasons, including that a new Disney animated film. Raya and the Last Dragon is the next big animation entry from the studio. We were excited for it just from the little we knew and saw of it before. But the movie’s first, intense trailer is even better than anything we could have hoped for.

From the first trailer, the film is like Moana meets Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones.

From the official Disney synopsis:

“Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when sinister monsters known as the Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, those same monsters have returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the last dragon in order to finally stop the Druun for good. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than dragon magic to save the world—it’s going to take trust as well.”

Starring Star Wars‘ Kelly Marie Tran as Raya and Awkwafina as Sisu, the film is directed by Don Hall and Carlos López Estrada. This first teaser focuses primarily on Raya. She’s “a lone warrior whose mission is to track down the legendary last dragon in a bid to save Kumandra and unite its lands.”

An adorable animal friend will also be a part of her adventure. As is legally mandated for every Disney film. (Not that we’re complaining!)

Raya and the Last Dragon is set for release on March 5, 2021 in theaters and on Disney+ with Premiere Access. We were already hopeful that would be possible. But after seeing this great first trailer, we really hope we can all be a part of the search for the last dragon.
